I'm reaching out with excellent news: The House passed the PRO Act this week to support unions and get power back in the hands of working Americans.
It was an honor to preside over the debate for this historic legislation, John. I've always believed that unions are essential to improving the lives of workers and their families -- a belief that has only been strengthened throughout this crisis.
The PRO Act will drastically change our labor laws. It will eliminate the financial barriers to unionizing and create stricter penalties for corporations and big businesses that intimidate workers and stop them from unionizing. Importantly, this bill will also give gig workers like Uber drivers, who've become essential workers throughout this pandemic, the right to fight for their rights alongside full-time workers.
I know passing this bill through the Senate will be a challenge. For too long, Republicans have chosen to protect their corporate friends and Big Business allies over working families, and I expect the same treatment from GOP Senators now.
But I can assure you I won't be backing down from this critical fight to protect working people and families in our district. I made a promise to lead with your families in mind. I intend to keep that promise, but I need your support to continue this work.
I don't rely on wealthy donors or large corporations to protect my seat -- I count on people like you to power my grassroots team and pass our priorities in Washington. That's why I'm reaching out to you now.
