Dear John, With two historic votes today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two gun violence prevention bills to close deadly loopholes in the background check system. - H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, expands background checks on gun sales and transfers.
- H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, closes the Charleston Loophole, which is a loophole that allows some guns to be sold before a background check is completed, even when a background check is required.
With these votes, we have so much to celebrate, but, for these bills to become law, they must pass in the U.S. Senate, too. This will be a more difficult challenge, and we need your help. Please urge Senator Tammy Baldwin and Senator Ron Johnson to vote to pass these bills! You and I have been working so hard for these important reforms because we know it will mean preventing tragedies and saving lives. We've been waiting for exactly this moment! So, please, don't wait. Take action right now! >>Click here to tell your U.S. senators to vote YES now. Let's get this done, Heidi Program Director |
