Conservatives in Virginia are constantly fighting for our children. On Friday, the Virginia General Assembly passed a conservative-led bill that would mandate in-person instruction in schools. However, the liberal majority in the General Assembly voted against getting students back into the classroom immediately. Time and time again liberals in Virginia have remained loyal to the teachers’ unions while ignoring children and science.

Hi John,

There is nothing more common than liberals trying to moralize a population through taxation. House Bill 3296 that was recently introduced in the Oregon House of Representatives calls for a nearly 3000% tax increase on beer and a 2000% tax increase on wine. To put this into context, the current tax on a barrel of beer is $2.60 and $0.65 for wine. This bill would see the tax duties skyrocket to $72.60 for a barrel of beer and $10.65 for wine.

This is yet another infantilizing policy the Left has proposed in order to restrict freedoms. It is the embodiment of the old liberal philosophy that citizens do not know how to care for themselves and thus the government must do it for them. Government mandates and intervention have never worked to curb the behavior of society -- and that should not be the objective. The sponsors of this bill wish to invoke our prohibition past with a tax of this nature.

They don’t pretend to care about the middle-class American that would not be able to afford such a price increase. Instead, what they do care about is controlling what people do. Conservative lawmakers understand Americans wish to live a life free of heavy-handed government involvement.

Sincerely,

Casey
