Hi John,

We have great news to share! This morning the House of Representatives approved two lifesaving background check bills, HR 8 and HR 1446! These bills, which both received bipartisan support (!), help keep guns out of dangerous hands by closing deadly loopholes in the federal background check system.

This is a huge deal. It has been more than 25 years since a meaningful gun responsibility bill was passed through Congress, and with gun safety champions in the White House and the Senate, this vital legislation finally has a fighting chance.

The background checks victory isn’t the only good news from Congress this week! Yesterday, the Senate confirmed Merrick Garland as Attorney General. And earlier this week, the Violence Against Women Act, a bill that would close the deadly dating partner and stalker loopholes, was reintroduced in Congress.

Years of tireless advocacy have led to this moment. We have a real opportunity to see meaningful change at the federal level. We need our lawmakers to know that we are watching and are committed to holding them accountable. Please, take two minutes to contact your Representative and either thank them for voting yes or admonish them for voting no on HR 8 (we’ll show you how they voted).

We can’t let this momentum fade! Your hard work and dedication got us this far. With your help, we can make history!

Thank you for all you do,
Dylan (he/him)
