[2]Dream Corps
Dear John,
After 5 years behind bars, Sonya is finally home. But on top of the stress of COVID-19 and rebuilding her life, crippling restitution payments make it nearly impossible to make ends meet.
We have seen relief come to the population at large via eviction moratoriums, stimulus checks, and student loan forbearance. We believe the same relief should be extended to those who have to pay fines and fees. The hardships of the pandemic are made worse for those who have been incarcerated, since failure to pay a simple traffic violation can lead to an accrual of interest on the original fine, making it nearly impossible to pay off.
That’s why Dream Corps JUSTICE is partnering with grassroots organizers in calling on the Governors of Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oregon to alleviate the economic hardships placed upon people who owe fines and fees and immediately forgive all state owed debt.

This type of relief is already happening in California, but we can’t stop there. We need your help uplifting Sonya and Ashley’s stories by getting thousands of people to tell their Governors to bring relief to communities who need it most. If you’re interested in helping to make this possible (especially if you live in Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oregon), click here to sign our petitions and help turn this dream into reality.
Thank you for standing with us!
