President Joe Biden is delivering on his promises -- this week the Biden-Harris Administration celebrated 50 million COVID-19 shots given since his inauguration.

Under President Biden's leadership, we're continuing to ramp up vaccine production and distribution. This week the White House announced states will collectively begin receiving 14.5 million vaccine doses per week, a weekly increase of 1 million doses. Vaccine deliveries have risen nearly 70 percent since Biden took office.

And that's just the beginning.

Tonight the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on direct relief for Americans. Every member will have the opportunity to vote for or against providing $1,400 checks to Americans during an ongoing economic crisis. Direct payments are one of the DOZENS of individual benefits in this bill -- it also extends emergency jobless benefits and provides billions for rental assistance, nutrition assistance and small business help.

There is so much at stake with President Biden's COVID relief plan. This week the president spoke with essential workers, including a Columbus single mom, who told Biden, "I've worked every single day in the pandemic," caring for essential workers' children, but still she cannot get vaccinated.

We can and must do better for our essential workers and families across this country.

Over the past year, Americans have pulled together to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, but Republicans have played down the crisis and refused to provide real relief, instead leaving millions of us grieving loved ones and struggling to make ends meet. Now Democrats are leading the way out of this crisis, fast-tracking pandemic relief with the vaccines, jobs and financial support our families need. Now is the time to think big and go big.

Sen. Sherrod Brown said it best in an op-ed for NBC THINK:

"We can treat the fight against this virus as the war that it is -- and then we can rebuild with a growing middle class, that all workers have the opportunity to join. And while we're at it, we might just save democracy again."

OHIO DEMS IN THE HEADLINES

*Beatty Convenes Congressional Black Caucus Special Hearing*

Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, held a hearing this week to unveil the CBC's policy priorities and plan of action for the Biden-Harris Administration's first 100 days in office.

"We are in an historic time, and the Congressional Black Caucus -- through Our Power, Our Message -- is uniquely poised to advance an agenda for Black people and the communities we serve," Beatty said.

The CBC is prioritizing passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The caucus is also calling for more COVID-19 vaccines to be made available in Black communities, which have experienced a disproportionate impact from the coronavirus pandemic.

*Republicans Fight Republicans in Buckeye State Brawl*

Last week Jane Timken jumped into the state's open U.S. Senate race, officially kicking off a "crowded and nasty" primary battle for the GOP nomination, with a field that's expected to continue to grow.

Within moments of Timken's announcement, corrupt politician Josh Mandel took to Twitter to lob attacks against his new opponent, as both candidates rushed to distance themselves from their fellow Republican, John Kasich.

Today Mandel attacked another Ohio Republican, Gov. Mike DeWine, for his handling of the coronavirus crisis.

The messy primary battle in Ohio is quickly demonstrating why Rob Portman's retirement last month has created a major liability for Republicans in the Buckeye State.

"Ohio's Republican primary field is already becoming a headache as GOP leaders in Washington struggle to deal with eroding support from their voters, a bitterly divided caucus and a multitude of toxic internal feuds," said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Stewart Boss. "This messy and divisive primary is off to a rough start, and it's only going to get worse."
