GOP Sen. Tom Cotton is spending tens of thousands of dollars on ads attacking Xavier Becerra, urging senators to vote against his confirmation as Health and Human Services secretary:
“We want them to know that there is a political cost to voting for Becerra and if they vote yes, they'll see it in 100 ads between now and 2022,” Cotton's adviser told Politico.
Becerra would be the first Latino to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. As a former congressman, he's been a leader in the fight for health care, reproductive, and immigrant justice. In his current role as California's attorney general, he's worked to make COVID-19 treatments more readily available.
The GOP is shelling out tens of thousands in an attempt to smear Becerra on the national stage -- but what they're also putting on full display is their blatant racism.
