Fellow Progressive,
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the grave inequalities in our systems. But almost no inequality is as grave as the COVD-19 racial gap: Black and brown people are nearly three times more likely than white people to contract COVID-19 and up to two times more likely to die from the disease.
As shocking as these statistics are, they reflect a health care system that continuously undervalues Black lives. From the Black maternal mortality rate to police violence, the effects of racism result in worse health outcomes for Black and brown Americans than for White Americans. It’s clear: racism is a public health issue.
In order to address racism and its public health effects, we need comprehensive anti-racist policy in our health care. That’s why Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Ayanna Pressley and Barbara Lee have reintroduced the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act.
We need 150 signatures from District of Columbia to sign our petition telling Congress to treat racism like the public health crisis it is. Will you add your name to demand Congress pass the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act?

The racism that exists in our health care system continuously puts Black and brown lives at risk.
We need Congress to support research that will develop anti-racism policies and practices in our federal health system. That’s why the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act would create a "National Center for Anti-Racism" and declare racism as a public health crisis.
