A little more than a month into the Biden administration, there are already many signs of hope. Finally, we have a competent team to navigate the COVID crisis, revitalize the economy, and deal with racial inequity.

We also have a leader who is 100% committed to addressing the threat of climate change. Among President Biden’s first moves were rejoining the Paris climate agreement, setting up a Climate Task Force, and reversing several of Trump’s giveaways to Big Oil including the Keystone XL pipeline.

This is only the beginning, and I’m genuinely excited by the promise of the Biden-Harris climate agenda. But this progress will grind to a stop if the GOP takes back control of Congress in 2022.

Last year, California experienced the worst fire season in our state’s history. Communities along the Atlantic and the Gulf coasts endured devastating hurricanes. And we just witnessed unprecedented snow and cold in Texas, leading to horrific suffering and loss of life.

If we fail to act, the frequency and severity of disasters caused by a rapidly changing climate will only worsen. President Biden understands this and has made it clear that he intends to take action. But he needs a Congress willing to support his agenda.
