Democrat,
As the weather begins to warm up and the snow starts to melt, the first signs of Spring are upon us. Here at NJDSC, that means that we are getting ready for a huge election season, with Governor Phil Murphy and the entire state legislature on the ballot in November. This week, the Governor and legislative Democrats fulfilled a promise years in the making to finally legalize adult use marijuana, ending decades of the failed war on drugs that has ravaged minority communities and creating new tax revenue, job opportunities and more. This week Governor Murphy delivered the annual State Budget Address, laying out his fiscal priorities for the year. The Governor’s budget proposal reflects the values we have come to expect: more funding for public schools, direct property tax relief for the middle class, support for small businesses, making sure every New Jersey child has health coverage, and perhaps most important of all, making the state’s first full payment into the pension system since 1996.

With President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan slated for a vote in the House of Representatives today, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee is calling on Rep. Jeff Van Drew and Rep. Chris Smith to put partisanship aside and support the $1.9 trillion relief package. Polling has shown that President Biden’s proposal is extremely popular, with 72% of Americans supporting it according to a recent national poll and support for the plan coming from across the ideological spectrum, including earlier this week from a group of 150 of the nation’s top CEOs.
