It happens every February.
Because this is the shortest month of the year, we don't see the uptick in online donations we can rely on in the closing days of any other month.
So we are looking at a shortfall that could hinder our work for the rest of the year.
If you can, please contribute today or even join our popular Sustainers program as a monthly donor and help us stay on track.
Donate now.
If you missed it, take a quick look at my previous message (copied below) highlighting just some of the critical work you and Public Citizen are doing together.
Thanks!

I wanted to give you a few examples of the many ways you and Public Citizen are making a difference.
This is all just from this month. And it only scratches the surface of the good work we’re doing together:
- We are working behind the scenes in Congress to win passage of President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief package.
- We won a significant court victory for government transparency — in a ruling that gives Americans more power to enforce a requirement that federal agencies make certain documents accessible to the public online.
- We denounced drug companies that agreed to legal settlements totaling $26 billion over their roles in the opioid crisis for scheming to deduct those costs from their taxes and for intending to claim billions more in tax subsidies meant for COVID relief.
- In the wake of Amazon announcing that founder Jeff Bezos would be stepping down as CEO, we called for major reform at the company — including a living wage and safe working conditions for its employees.
- We are pushing the Biden administration to take bold action on global vaccine access, including direct monetary investment and forcing pharmaceutical giants to make vaccines developed with support from American taxpayers available worldwide.
- We are spearheading the coalition that is poised to win passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1/S.1) — the most sweeping, transformative democracy legislation since the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.
There is, of course, much, much more yet to do — to confront the coronavirus pandemic and related economic unraveling, to keep pushing for real progress in the White House and on Capitol Hill, to undo all the damage done by Donald Trump and his sympathizers throughout the Republican Party, and to defend our democracy from proto-fascist, white-supremacist extremism.
But we can’t do it without a baseline level of financial resources. (Public Citizen operates on a shoestring budget, but we do need to keep those shoestrings tied, as it were.)
And — not even two full months into 2021 — we’re already facing a shortfall in our online donations that could hinder our work for the rest of the year.
If you can, please contribute today or even join our popular Sustainers program as a monthly donor and help us stay on track.
Donate now.
Thank you for reading this.
Thank you for anything you can chip in.
And thank you for everything you do as part of Public Citizen.
- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
P.S. If donating today is not right for you, that’s OK. I hope you’ll understand that I have to ask from time to time — especially when we need help overcoming a shortfall — so that we have the resources to carry out all the essential work we are doing together.
