Yesterday, the House passed the Equality Act – a landmark piece of legislation that will extend federal protections for the LTBTQ community against discrimination.
Not content to simply vote “no,” the House’s most extreme and vocal right-wing bigot, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), tried employing procedural tactics to block the bill and attacked it – and, in particular, its protections for transgender people – as "disgusting, immoral, and evil."
Nearly 50,000 People For supporters have already signed a petition calling for Rep. Greene’s expulsion from Congress over her reckless embrace of violent conspiracy theories and calls for of violence against political opponents, including some of her current colleagues in the House.
Following this week’s attacks from Greene on the Equality Act and the trans community, Rep. Marie Newman (D-IL), who has a trans daughter, put up a trans pride flag outside of her office so Greene could see it every day. Rep. Newman’s office is directly across the hall from Greene’s.
Greene then escalated by making her taunts personal and posting a sign on the wall right outside her office (and directly across from Rep. Newman’s) stating that it’s “science” that there are two genders: male and female. Of course, that’s not at all what the science says, but we wouldn’t expect better from the unofficial chair of the QAnon Caucus.
Let’s send Marjorie Taylor Greene a message that trans rights deserve to be protected … that EQUALITY is the American Way … and that People For is committed to the fight to keep holding Greene and extremists like her accountable.
