It is the honor of a lifetime to serve New York’s 17th Congressional District, the community that raised me from humble beginnings and catapulted me to the halls of Congress (which I admit I’m still learning how to navigate — because the tunnels are hard!).

The two months I’ve been in Congress have been instructive in many ways.

Something I’ve found troubling — though not surprising — is how few working-class folks are able to serve in Congress. For too many of my colleagues, the debate regarding raising the minimum wage to $15/hour is purely academic.

By contrast, policies like this are personal to me. I grew up in Section 8 housing, raised by a single mom who had to work multiple jobs. We need more people in Congress who understand the struggles facing working people because they have lived them.

I’m fighting hard to get legislation passed that working families need, like real COVID relief for working families, a $15 minimum wage, student debt forgiveness, Medicare for All, and a Green New Deal. Your financial support allows me to continue to fight for these policies — not worry about fundraising for re-election ahead of redistricting next year.
