I remember it as if it were yesterday. My twin son and daughter were born 14 weeks premature. They weighed just a pound and a half each.

Seeing our small, newborn babies hooked up to tubes in plastic incubators completely changed how we viewed the world around us, and brought what's really important into stark clarity. We almost lost our children, and many parents aren't as lucky as we were.

That's why I took the opportunity to run for Kentucky's State Senate, and that's why I'm committed to making sure every single family has the same access to health care that I did when my children were in danger.

I want to make it easier for Kentuckians to access quality health care and I desperately need your help. We need 1,000 supporters to send a strong message -- will you add your name today? [[link removed]]

I know Kentucky families across the state have similar stories to mine. But not every family is as lucky mine was. That just shouldn’t be the case: Every Kentuckian should have access to affordable, quality health care -- not just the rich.

Your income or social status shouldn’t determine the quality -- or price -- of your health care. But Republicans in Kentucky have proven again and again that they think only the privileged deserve world-class health care.

In my time as the Democratic Leader in the Kentucky State Senate, I’ve fought tirelessly to ensure everyone can access affordable health care. As a member of the Medicaid Oversight & Advisory Committee, I expanded Medicaid access to more than 400,000 Kentuckians. But my work here is just beginning.

I’m fighting for affordable health care for every Kentuckian and I need your help. Sign your name to demand that everyone has access to quality health care: [[link removed]]

Every day, I’m reminded of my family’s medical battle, and I know I don’t want another Kentuckian to go through what we did. I won’t stop fighting for quality health care for Kentuckians until we get it.
