Hello, John.
The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed all the cracks and breaks within our society: A fragile economy. An inadequate healthcare system. Millions of essential workers — most of whom are women of color — left without basic protections. In the face of this loss and confusion, we have an unprecedented opportunity to rebuild our economy and society with care for people, communities, and the planet at the center.
NDWA is committed to making this vision a reality — and we know that you are, too. That’s why we’re inviting you to join Representatives Jamaal Bowman, Nikema Williams, and Senator Elizabeth Warren on March 1 at 7:30pm EST for the #MakeCareCount Virtual Event, where they will highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive care infrastructure that supports the caregivers — especially Black and Latinx women — who make all other work possible.
Care is a cornerstone of our economy, at the center of our communities and everyday life. If we invest in and value care for the essential work that it is, we can jump start an economic recovery that is swift, equitable and sustainable for all of us.
The #MakeCareCount event will give you an opportunity to hear from elected leaders who are responding directly to our concerns about work, family and care. You’ll also hear directly from caregivers working on the frontlines and you’ll have an opportunity to take actions that will go a long way in ensuring our shared vision for a care economy becomes a reality. I hope to see you there.
Thanks for all you do,
Ai-Jen Poo
