John, I have exciting news to share: Yesterday, the House passed the Equality Act! We have come so far in the fight to secure full, lived equality for the LGBTQ community. And we took another major step in passing the Equality Act. I am so proud to have cast my vote in favor of justice for all. This is an incredibly productive time in Congress. In addition to passing the Equality Act, I’d like to tell you about some other exciting legislation coming down the pike in the House. And please remember that none of this progress would be possible without your hard work and support. As soon as today we’re going to pass the American Rescue Plan. Our communities have been suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic for a year now. As you know, I’ve been outspoken about the urgent need for expanded relief for families and small businesses, and its passage will be a major step forward. A major part of the American Rescue Plan includes a piece of legislation I authored. The Health Care Affordability Act (HCAA) will not only help us recover from the pandemic but help more Americans afford health care. This legislation ensures that no American would pay more than 8.5% of their income on health care coverage. Right now, families in our community pay up to 25% of their income on premiums! That's unacceptable, and I’m so proud that it will pass the House as a part of the American Rescue Plan. Next week, we’re moving even more legislation through the House. The “For the People Act,” or HR1 would prevent voter purges, end gerrymandering, expand early voting, reduce the corrosive impact of money in politics, and much more. Our democracy is strongest when everyone’s voice is heard. And soon, we’ll be voting on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. There's a lot of work that needs to be done to address the systemic racism throughout our country, and passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act will help keep all of our communities safe while fostering a culture of accountability, and transparency, and justice. In addition to these major pieces of legislation, I’ve sponsored dozens of bills that will help create jobs, improve healthcare, and help our nation recover from the pandemic stronger than we were before. All of this has once again caught the attention of the NRCC. As you know, I’ve recently been named to their top targets list. I’m fighting hard for our shared values in Congress, and I’m counting on your support to keep me doing this work. Thanks for all you do,
