Reaffirm your support for public land
John,

On February 26, 1919, the bill establishing Grand Canyon National Park was signed by President Woodrow Wilson. Today marks the 102nd birthday of this majestic National Park. I know you value this national treasure like I do, especially if you’ve enjoyed the landscape from an overlook, strolled along the rim, or hiked one of the park’s corridor trails.

But the fate of the Grand Canyon and its surroundings are at stake. In 2012, after extensive public support, a 20-year ban on uranium mining was placed near the Grand Canyon to protect critical waterways, sacred sites, and wildlife habitat. But the ban is only temporary, which is why The Trust for Public Land is doing everything we can to get Congress to permanently ban toxic uranium mining near the Grand Canyon before it’s too late.

John, we’re so glad to count you as a public land supporter, and we rely on you more than you might know. Today, on the 102nd anniversary of the creation of Grand Canyon National Park, we’re asking for 102 of our most committed advocates to strengthen their commitment to create parks and protect public lands for people with a modest monthly gift of $15, or $21, or whatever you can afford. Can I count on you to join our Monthly Giving Society today?

2021 is underway, there’s a new Congress in Washington, D.C., and we have to get to work on a long list of urgent needs, including:
  • Helping our Federal Affairs team in D.C. pursue important priorities, starting with permanent protection against uranium mining near the Grand Canyon, and reversing two million acres of protected land rollbacks from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments.
  • Ensuring that every American has a park or open space within a 10-minute walk of home, something that 100 million people in the U.S., including 28 million children, do not have.
  • Advancing the Climate-Smart Cities™ initiative, to make communities more equitable, livable, and resilient to increased wildfires, hurricanes, and other devastating effects of climate change.
As The Trust for Public Land works to conserve one million acres of land, protect 1,000 miles of rivers, and build 1,000 miles of trails across America — goals we’ve set to achieve by 2025 — I know I can count on you to be a dependable source of support each month.

Thank you for helping us reach our goal today.

Sincerely,
Kate Worth Signature
