Friend,
The climate has changed, but the Republican playbook sure hasn't.
Shirk your duties, pocket millions from fossil fuel interests, and embrace deregulation—then point the finger at others when things go wrong.
That's what Republicans have been doing for years. In recent weeks, while Texans rationed water and burned belongings for heat, their Republican leaders blamed renewable energy sources for the failure of the state's independent power grid. They're cowards, and they're on the defense now.
So this spring, as climate legislation starts to make its way through Congress, Evergreen is going all in. We're going to call out these Republicans who have sold their souls to the fossil fuel industry, and we will hold them accountable for their lies and make the case for passing bold climate legislation now.
We've been preparing for this, and with a new balance of power in the Senate and Joe Biden in the White House, we've got the wind at our backs. (No fake "frozen windmills" here!)
Our goal is to raise $15,000 by midnight Sunday to fuel our work in this critical moment. Will you make your first donation today to help spread the word that bold climate action isn't a luxury—it's a necessity?
Thanks,
Team Evergreen

Subject: GOP fossil fuel lackeys in Texas
Friend,
The tragedy that unfolded in Texas last week is at the top of a growing stack of receipts showing the costs of climate inaction.
A brutal winter storm knocked out the power grid, and millions of Texans went without electricity, heat, and clean water.
When Texans were in need, how did their Republican leaders respond? Governor Greg Abbott blamed the Green New Deal and "frozen windmills" for the failure. Congressman Dan Crenshaw pointed the finger at wind turbines. Senator Ted Cruz fled to Mexico.
What happened in Texas wasn't a failure of renewables. It was a failure of leadership—and we won't let it happen again.
To fight back against the cowardice of the fossil fuel lackeys in Congress, Evergreen needs to raise $15,000 by its end-of-month deadline. Please, if you can, chip in $10 right now to help Evergreen counter the lies that Republicans are spewing at the behest of their fossil fuel industry donors.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
It's no surprise that these Texas "leaders" are failing to meet this climate moment. They've been bought and sold by fossil fuels: Last year, Crenshaw took in $453,247 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry. Cruz, who wasn't even on the ballot, took in a combined $24,000 from Chevron's and Exxon's PACs. Together, in the 2020 election cycle, Crenshaw, Cruz, and fellow Texan Senator John Cornyn took in well over $1 million from the fossil fuel industry.
The consequences of perpetuating the fossil fuel economy and denying the climate crisis are staring us in the face. Yet even with this most recent disaster, congressional Republicans continue to deflect, deny, and line their pockets while their constituents pay the price.
Let's meet their cowardice with boldness: Evergreen is pushing for an end to the fossil fuel filibuster, a 100% clean electricity standard, and other policy changes at the very top of government. I'm not exaggerating when I say this: Our success or failure will shape the future, determining whether we avert the worst outcomes of the climate crisis or watch events like we saw in Texas become the norm.
Help shape the future alongside Evergreen: Donate today to help Evergreen meet its $15,000 end-of-month fundraising goal to show that this climate movement is growing—and that the future is with it.
Very truly yours,
Jay
