Like many other grandparents, it’s important to me that we protect our planet and environment for future generations like my grandson Charlie.
Here in Maryland, our environment is an important aspect of our culture -- from our beloved Chesapeake Bay, to the beaches we visit in the summer, and outdoor recreation that’s helping us safely get out of the house during the pandemic. It’s also a major component of our state’s economy, providing revenue and jobs that keep our communities going.
Climate change poses a real, serious, and imminent threat to our planet and our way of life. I’m working in Congress and with the Biden Administration to take swift and significant climate action to reverse the anti-environment policies of the Trump Administration, combat the effects of climate change, and protect our environment for generations to come.

To that end, I have two updates I want to share with you:
- The House is considering an important measure that would protect roughly 1.5 million acres of public lands and over 1,200 miles of rivers around our country and withdraw 1.2 million acres of public lands from new drilling and mining licenses. It would also support the Biden Administration’s environmental initiatives, including improving access to clean water and air and supporting historically underserved communities.
- I earned a perfect score on the League of Conservation Voters’ 2020 Scorecard. I’m proud to have my work in Congress championing climate action and environmental justice recognized and I'm committed to continuing that work with the Biden Administration.
There’s still so much to be done to course correct and undo the damage done by climate change. With President Biden in the White House and Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress, we’re in a strong position to enact bold legislation that meets the magnitude of this crisis.
We need to protect our slim House Majority so we can continue to take steps to combat climate change and protect our environment, but Washington Republicans are already attacking Democrats like me in hopes of turning the House red. With the end-of-month deadline coming up the day after tomorrow, I need to ask: Will you chip in to help defend this crucial blue seat and our House Majority?
Your friend,
Dutch
