This is Dr. Michael Osterholm, FairVote Minnesota Board Member. 

I am constantly asked, “What’s the one thing we can do to fix our healthcare system?” And the answer I give: Fix our democracy. If we fix our democracy, healthcare policy, our response to the pandemic, and policy on a whole host of things we care about will improve. 

Friends, the time to fix our democracy is now. And Ranked Choice Voting is the single most important thing we can do to achieve this goal. Sadly, some are fearful of empowering voters and, in fact, there is a bill in the Minnesota Senate that would ban RCV in Minnesota. This is the wrong direction. The right direction is passing the pro-RCV legislation that would take RCV statewide while giving all communities the control they deserve to decide if RCV is right for them.

FairVote MN must keep up its grassroots organizing year-round, both to defend against our opponent’s anti-democractic attempt to BAN Ranked Choice Voting, and to build the organizing machine that will pass RCV statewide!

While politics has become dispiriting, RCV can give us hope. It can strengthen our democracy and would have a tremendous impact for years to come. This reform can help us elect more of the kind of leaders we need, make us better prepared for the next health crisis and improve our state for the better.
