The race is heating up and the national media is turning their attention to the Virginia governor's race. There are only a handful of elections happening in 2021 and THIS race is the one to watch. Recent endorsements show clear momentum for Jennifer Carroll Foy.
Recently, a poll released from the Wason Center showed that a shake up could happen soon:
“New Democratic faces and priorities have emerged since Terry McAuliffe was governor,” said Wason Center Academic Director Dr. Quentin Kidd. “He opens with a head start, but he’s a long way from closing the deal.”
If elected, Carroll Foy would be the FIRST Black woman to serve as governor nationwide. She is also the FIRST gubernatorial candidate in the country to vow to appoint an all pro-choice cabinet.
“The message that Jennifer Carroll Foy is taking to these voters today is that she is representing parts of the community and parts of the state that have been forgotten for quite a long time, bringing that experience with her to Richmond.”
Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her time as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities.
She has a career of public service and it started long before 2017. As a public defender, Jennifer helped give a voice to the often voiceless — children, people suffering from addiction, those experiencing homelessness, those with mental illness, and the poor.
Now she’s running to be the first woman elected Governor of Virginia and serve as the first Black woman to be governor nationwide.
