Dear John,
Black History Month is #MoreThanFebruary [[link removed]] . And as we celebrate Black history, Black stories, and Black voices, we also want to recognize the power in Black communities. Young Black people have been monumental in social justice reform; just this past summer we saw international protests sparked by young, Black organizers.
The surging power of so many Black-led movements has brought renewed energy to the celebration of Black lives and advocacy. Black History Month is a time for festivity, but it’s also a reminder that collective action for Black people in America should happen every day, every month, and every year. One of our generations’ greatest strengths is the ability to organize against injustice.
Your advocacy and collective work with Generation Progress’s digital action tools has progressed the fight to cancel student debt, shrink the criminal legal system, address the climate crisis, and provide solutions to the many other issues that disproportionately harm young Black people across our country. GP strives to uplift the voices of young people and to look at all of our issue areas through a critical, racial lens.
As we round out this Black History Month we encourage you to take collective action through our action tools and to continue to be in service to young Black organizers. [[link removed]]
February was a time to reflect, honor, and celebrate Black people. As it comes to a close, let’s come together to build a world where Black futures can thrive.
Best,
The Generation Progress Team
