Tell President Biden: We Need Bold Climate Action on Cars and Power Plants
If we're going to save our planet, we need to be on a path to zero emissions for new cars and power plants by 2035 — and that means getting started NOW. Call on President Biden and his EPA to take bold climate action and get us on the path to 100% clean energy immediately!

Dear NRDC Activist,
President Biden has already put forth the most sweeping climate agenda in U.S. history.
But we've yet to see the Biden administration's plans for cutting emissions from vehicles and power plants — the two largest sources of carbon pollution here in the U.S. Together, transportation and power plants generate over 55% of our country's climate-busting carbon pollution.
If we're serious about fighting climate change, we need to be on a pathway towards 100% zero emissions by 2035 for power plants and new cars — and that means getting started NOW.
Please call on the Biden administration to continue taking bold climate action and put us on a path to zero carbon emissions for new cars and power plants by 2035.
Thankfully, President Biden has already overturned many of former President Trump's disastrous environmental rollbacks, including Trump's attack on vehicle fuel efficiency and emission standards.
He's also made huge strides for our clean energy future by rejoining the Paris climate accord, canceling the dangerous Keystone XL pipeline, and reversing Trump's rollback of lifesaving clean car standards that have helped reduce massive amounts of toxic air and climate pollution from the nation's cars and light trucks. These are great first steps, but they're not enough.
To preserve our planet for future generations, we also need the Biden administration to:
- Set standards to help make all new cars and light-duty trucks zero-emission vehicles by 2035. In doing so, the standards should reduce carbon emissions by at least 60% by 2030
- Issue new power plant standards to move toward carbon-free electricity by 2035 — and that means putting us on a path to that goal by 2030
- Tighten pollution standards for trucks and buses to spur the transition to climate-friendly electric trucks that reduce deadly diesel pollution—especially in low-income communities and communities of color. By 2040, all new trucks should be pollution-free
- Expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure to deploy at least 500,000 charging outlets by 2030
- Create good-paying jobs in the growing zero-emission vehicles industry
Tell President Biden, his EPA, and White House climate advisors Gina McCarthy and John Kerry that we need to step up our climate commitments for our two largest sources of carbon pollution.
We're already seeing the devastating effects of climate change firsthand, with disproportionate impacts on frontline communities — predominantly low-income communities and communities of color. The devastating power outages across Texas are the latest stark reminder that our transition to a 100% clean energy future cannot wait.
We can bring the nation back from the brink of climate catastrophe — if we zero-out carbon emissions as a planet by 2050. To do that, the U.S. must lead the way in transitioning to pollution-free vehicles and power plants by 2035.
Our work is cut out for us, but we have faith that President Biden can lead us where we need to go. Will you continue this critical fight with us and take urgent action for climate change today?
Thanks for standing with us.
Sincerely,
Luke Tonachel
