GOP Rep. Debbie Lesko thinks Latinos aren't Americans.
“I worked with people that are Hispanic,” Lesko said during a recent House committee hearing on vaccinations, according to NBC News. “We have to take care of American citizens, or people that are here legally, first.”
Everyone deserves to survive and thrive -- and by electing the first Black and Asian vice president, we sent a message to the GOP that everyone deserves a shot at the American Dream regardless of their race, class, gender, or citizenship status.
In response to Lesko's comments, Democratic state senator Martin Quezada said that Lesko's statement “reeks of racism.”
The GOP's entire legacy and agenda has reeked of racism for decades, and Lesko's comments are just one example of their continued white nationalist crusade.
