The American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion stimulus package proposed by President Joe Biden, includes $39 billion in dedicated relief for child care providers, along with other crucial supports for families, underscoring the widespread and bipartisan understanding of the crucial role child care plays in our nation’s economy.
This legislation is currently being debated and negotiated in Congress, amid a number of important but competing priorities. Your federal lawmakers need to hear from you that America's economic recovery cannot succeed without child care. Significant relief is needed in the next few months to ensure these essential businesses can continue operating and parents can afford care.

Child care is an essential pillar of the American economy, yet COVID-19 has pushed an already-struggling child care industry to the brink of collapse. In the face of increased operating costs and decreased revenue, child care providers are experiencing an unsustainable financial reality and need financial support to stay in business.
The child care industry lost roughly 171,000 jobs between February 2020 and December 2020, which still have not been recovered. And a December survey of providers found that 56% of child care centers are losing money each day they remain open. The federal relief funding delivered by Congress in December was intended to supply some much-needed short-term assistance to providers and the families they serve for roughly the next three months, but we know the dire effects of the pandemic will be felt for months to come, and therefore, the recent relief funding won't meet the full and immediate needs facing our child care industry.
