24 activists plus 1 ship = 55 square miles of "protected" waters now off-limits to destructive bottom trawlers.[1]

Greenpeace activists have built an underwater boulder barrier to stop bottom trawlers ravaging the seabed in the Offshore Brighton Marine Protected Area in the English Channel. But we can't keep destructive trawlers out of all UK "protected" waters - only the Government can do that.

We know public pressure can push the Government to act (how many u-turns has it been now?). Tweet at the Government and call on them to ban industrial fishing in all UK Marine Protected Areas.

Bottom trawlers spend thousands of hours every year fishing in parts of UK waters that are supposed to be protected.[1] It's entirely legal - but it makes a mockery out of the word "protected'.

A few weeks ago, as a direct response to our campaign, the Government announced proposals to ban bottom trawlers in two Marine Protected Areas, and proposed partial restrictions in two more sites.[2] It's an important start (thanks for all your support in making this happen!) - but proper protection in two out of 76 just isn't good enough.

The Government has proved it can move to ban destructive fishing from Marine Protected Areas when it wants to. And we've proven that we can impact Government decision-making - with your help.

Let's take to Twitter and push the Government to introduce a full ban on destructive industrial fishing in all Marine Protected Areas.
