Hi John,
Tomorrow is my first filing deadline with the FEC.
I used to get emails from candidates saying “Urgent!! Donate now! FEC filing deadline!!” And roll my eyes, because I thought it was fake urgency.
Turns out...it’s not. A lot rides on these quarterly reports, which are public information. People look at them — especially your first quarterly report, like this one is for me — and use it to judge how “serious” your campaign is. It sucks, but that’s how it is.
More
money now = more media coverage, more endorsements from big progressive groups, and more donations.
More importantly, a strong first quarter lets me build the ground game I need to win this race. That means tools for volunteers, data, t-shirts, campaign literature, and much more.
Thankfully, Mike Gravel sent an email to his list for me today, and I’ve raised $5,686 today with an average donation of $21.45! Because I don’t raise money at high-dollar fundraisers or from lobbyists or corporate PACs, these grassroots donations are hugely important.
My goal is to raise another $500 today alone, bringing us to $6,186 for the day.
I’d really appreciate it.
Because ultimately, it’s not about the money. It’s what the money does. It lets me win this race and help the people in our district who need it:
- The seniors having to choose between paying for groceries or prescriptions
- The college students sleeping in their cars
- The people dying waiting in line for drug and alcohol treatment
- The people waiting 5+ years for affordable, subsidized housing
- The people getting bankrupted by medical debt
There’s so much at stake in 2020, and our race is part of a national movement. A movement to bring justice and freedom to all. A movement to end corporate rule of our country. A movement to live up to our country’s ideals and build true economic and political democracy.
My race is part of that movement. So are you. And together, we’re going to win.
Whatever you can give before tomorrow at midnight helps us get there:
Thank you,
-Rebecca
