Dear ,
We knew that running against candidates with national name recognition and donors with deep pockets was going to be a herculean task, but Dianne has beat expectations at every turn. Our campaign has the most small-dollar donors of anyone in this race — because this is a movement of the People.
Despite knowing our campaign has the most grassroots support of any candidate, if you turned on the news, you would find that local media continue to dismiss Dianne’s candidacy: Here’s the thing: Dianne is the first Afro-Latina to run for mayor, considered in the top 8 mayoral candidates (out of dozens), and has been endorsed by Latinx legislators like AssemblymemberJessica González-Rojas and State Senator Gustavo Rivera. The fact is that she should be elevated in discussions about Latinxs in city politics.
Dianne has consistently spoken out against the erasure of her candidacy by corporate media. Donate now and send a message to the media that we are here to stay! We know the way women of color are reported on — the purity tests and measures of success — are different. And as you can see, fellow women of color seeing you and bringing you into the discussion just isn’t enough to overcome the media’s instinct to ignore us: We have news for the news: We are not going anywhere. Our movement is here to stay. We will continue our fight for a dignity-first New York. One that believes in housing as a human right, a Green New Deal for NYCHA and New York, healthcare for all, free CUNY and real investment in our communities that need it most.
This campaign has defied expectations at every turn, and we have raised more than $400k from small-dollar donors who believe a better future is possible for all New Yorkers. Donate today if you’re in the fight with us! In solidarity,
Team Dianne If you believe you received this message in error or wish to no longer receive email from us, please unsubscribe. |
