[ [link removed] ]Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress

Here’s how it started:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [1]Verified @aoc
[2]@aoc Team AOC is launching relief efforts for Texas starting today.

Our first effort is a partnership w/ 5 Texas orgs getting
on-the-ground relief to Texans ASAP.

If you’re able, please donate here - it’ll split your
contribution to all 5.

💯% goes to them.

Within hours, our movement raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [3]Verified @aoc
[4]@aoc I feel like I should do something if we hit $1M in Texas
relief. What should it be? (Don’t be weird pls)

Then we hit $2 million, and Alexandria decided to fly to Texas to meet
with families directly impacted and support direct relief.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [5]Verified @aoc
[6]@aoc We’ve now raised $2 MILLION in relief for Texans & are adding
more orgs. 🙏

I’ll be flying to Texas today ✈️ to visit with Houston rep
Sylvia Garcia (@LaCongresista) to distribute supplies and help
amplify needs & solutions.

Let’s see how far we can go:

Then we hit $3.2 million as Alexandria packed boxes alongside volunteers
at the Houston Food Bank and recruited others to join her.

[8]@aoc We hit $3.2 MILLION in Texas relief support last night!

One of the places it's going is the Houston Food Bank. I'm
visiting Reps. @JacksonLeeTX18 & @LaCongresista with
volunteers to pack meals.

The bank REALLY needs helping hands. Can you join a shift?

From the beginning, Alexandria was clear that charity is not a replacement
for short-term and long-term policy solutions to prevent a disaster like
this from ever happening again.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [11]Verified @aoc
[12]@aoc Charity isn’t a replacement for good governance, but we won’t
turn away from helping people in need when things hit the
fan.

People understand that now is the time for collective action
and doing what we can w/ whatever we’ve got.

🙏 Thank you y Pa’lante!

As the days continued, we raised $4 million…

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [13]Verified @aoc
[14]@aoc We just hit $4 million!

Reps. Sylvia Garcia, Sheila Jackson Lee & Al Green of Houston
are doing incredible work w/ local relief organizations to
get emergency relief to Texans.

Today we went to food distributions, water delivery sites,
and home tours of impacted Texans.

Then $5 million…

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [16]Verified @aoc
[17]@aoc One last update (I think!): We just hit $5 million raised for
Texans across the state.

Thank you ALL for your collective action when people need it
most.

Charity can’t replace policy, but solidarity is how we’ll
face climate change and build a better world. 💪🌏

Thank you 🙏

Alexandria visited the homes of constituents and saw the damage this storm
has done and all the work we have left to do.

Rep. Sylvia Garcia [19]Verified @RepSylviaGarcia
[20]Rep. As we toured the homes of constituents @koryahaywood & Ms.
Garcia Hulsey, we saw the damage this storm has done & all the work
we have left to do.

Good news, @POTUS has authorized federal funds to help us
rebuild, please visit ⤵️ to apply for FEMA assistance

Not many members of Congress are willing to put their own fundraising
aside and take time away from their districts to help those in need.

But it goes beyond that. Alexandria is not just fighting to make sure that
families in Texas continue to get the support they need.

She’s fighting for long-term structural changes to invest in good paying
jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure to withstand extreme weather and
prevent the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

[ [link removed] ]If you’re with us, can you make a $3 contribution today
to help us grow this movement for big, bold change?

Together we can continue to support each other in times of crisis and
fight for the future we deserve.

Thanks for being part of this,

Team AOC
