** ARLINGTON RELEASES AFFORDABLE HOUSING MASTER PLAN FIVE-YEAR REPORT

The County is conducting a five-year review of the Affordable Housing Master Plan (AHMP) ([link removed]) , a policy framework and vision created to meet affordable housing needs through 2040. As part of this effort, Arlington released a comprehensive, five-year report highlighting the achievements under the plan’s three overarching goals:
GOAL 1: Supply
Arlington County shall have an adequate supply of housing available to meet community needs.
GOAL 2: Access
Arlington County shall ensure that all segments of the community have access to housing.
GOAL 3: Sustainability
Arlington County shall ensure that its housing efforts contribute to a sustainable community.

** PROPOSED FY 2022 BUDGET BRIDGES ARLINGTON THROUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

In these budget-challenged times, the County is proposing no increase in the Affordable Housing Investment Fund for FY 2022. However, AHS is pleased with continued investments in emergency rental relief and a proposed 28% budget increase for the Housing Grants program. This increase is one way the County can help meet the needs of the lowest-income renters who are most at risk.

** Zoning and Segregation in Virginia: Part 1

** The law firm McGuireWoods released part one of a new paper ([link removed]) documenting the history of zoning and segregation in Virginia and the legacy of systemic racism preserved by zoning. The paper also offers a call to action: Revise Virginia zoning and planning laws to increase housing opportunities for all people throughout the state’s localities.
