Dear John,

Every session, OLCV works to pass pro-environment legislation and stop bills that threaten the health of our communities and environment. Even though we can’t be at the Capitol in person this year, our work continues. We are still here every day, every step of the way, protecting Oregon’s people and places.

You make our work possible. Please make a gift to OLCV today of $20, $35, $50, $100, or whatever amount is right for you and help us pass our legislative priorities. DONATE: [link removed]

Each legislative session, the Oregon Conservation Network (led by OLCV), chooses bills that are our Priorities for a Healthy Oregon. Your gift today will help us pass our 2021 Priorities for a Healthy Oregon:

The Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity Package:
-100% Clean Energy for All (HB 2995) would create good, well-paying, local jobs in the renewable energy sector including disaster-resilient, community-based projects that are good for Oregonians and reduce pollution by achieving 100% clean energy as soon as possible. We can no longer put off strong action to address climate. We must ensure that low-income, rural, coastal, and BIPOC communities see the benefits of clean energy.
-Healthy Homes (HB 2842) would support home upgrades and weatherization to help improve the health and safety of families across Oregon.
-The Oregon Energy Affordability Act (HB 2475) would decrease utility costs for families already struggling with utility cost burden by establishing a Low-Income Utility Rate Class, and ensure energy affordability as we shift to renewable energy sources.

Smart Comprehensive Wildfire Policy
In response to last summer’s devastating wildfires, OLCV and the Oregon Conservation Network (OCN) will support bills that match our vision for what smart comprehensive wildfire policy looks like in Oregon. We support fully funding wildfire risk mapping – needing to know where and how to rebuild – updating building codes to build back better, focusing our limited resources on actions proven to best protect people and property, creating a workforce that will prepare us for climate change-induced increases in wildfires, and protecting/restoring drinking water sources.

Disbanding the Oregon Forest Resources Institute (HB 2357)
For years, the Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) has been using millions of taxpayer dollars to make the timber industry look more sustainable than it is, using propaganda to cover up the dangerous effects of logging on drinking water and wildlife habitat. HB 2357 would disband OFRI and redirect its public funding to scientifically sound sustainable forest restoration and management practices and outdoor education.

Budget
Due to budget cuts, many of the programs we’ve fought to pass in previous sessions are already struggling to hire staff to do the important work they need to do: we can’t afford to cut the budget even further. There needs to be room in the budget to give natural resource agencies the funding they need to protect our air and water, public lands, and our communities.
