John,

The Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity and Reliability (WATER) Act is returning to Congress – and it’s more urgent than ever.

Today, Senator Bernie Sanders and Representatives Brenda Lawrence and Ro Khanna introduced legislation that will help ensure that every person has access to safe, clean water in the United States!

Tell your senators and representatives to co-sponsor the WATER Act today.

The recent deep freeze that plunged Texas into an energy crisis has caused a wave of water shortages and infrastructure breakdowns across the South. It’s been years since the Flint water crisis began, and people who live there are still suffering the consequences. These water tragedies are shedding light on a nationwide problem.

Decades of austerity with slashed federal water funding has brought us here. WAY too many people cannot drink or bathe in the water coming from their taps and cannot afford their water bills. This is truly a national crisis.

We need the federal government to step up and prevent further water tragedies! Send a message to your members of Congress now.

The WATER Act reinvests federal dollars to provide $35 billion a year to drinking water and wastewater improvements and will:

-- Create up to 1 million jobs across the economy and protect workers;
-- Provide more than $1 billion a year to update water infrastructure in public schools;
-- Prioritize disadvantaged communities with grants and expand technical assistance to small, rural and indigenous communities; and
-- Help homeowners replace lead service lines, remove PFAS from drinking water, and upgrade household wells and septic systems.

Water for all!

Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the WATER Act to ensure safe, affordable, publicly-controlled water for all.

Since peaking in 1977, federal funding for water infrastructure has been cut by 77 percent (through 2017). This slash in funding is unconscionable. We need massive federal investment in our public water infrastructure to prioritize communities, promote climate resilience and ensure public water for all.

All of us deserve the most basic human need: clean drinking water. Together, we CAN save our water for future generations and fight for communities across the country facing water injustices.

Tell Congress: It’s time you fix the countless, long-standing water issues across the country by co-sponsoring the WATER Act.
