We trust that you are making reasonably healthy choices about the foods you eat. But what about the wrappers and other packaging that your food comes in?
As you may recall, we helped pass a ban on PFAS chemicals in food packaging here in New York State. But that won’t take effect until December 2022, and doesn't apply to the rest of the country!
PFAS are toxic chemicals used in the coatings on paper wrappers and paperboard packaging, and they have been linked to a variety of health concerns, including a higher risk of getting severely sick from COVID-19. They can contaminate your food directly, and can also pollute the communities where the chemicals and packaging are made – and disposed of. You can learn more about PFAS here.
TAKE ACTION
Thanks to people like you, McDonald’s agreed to stop using PFAS. But Burger King has not! In fact, the Whopper wrapper contains PFAS, and they sell 2 million of those each day!
We’re working with our friends at Safer Chemicals, Healthier Families on a nationwide PFAS ban. And getting Burger King to change its ways would set a “whopper” of an example for the other chains.
You helped us get McDonald’s off the toxic PFAS train. Please help us convince Burger King to do the same. Help rid our communities of these toxic chemicals, and build momentum for a nationwide ban!
