PLEASE READ: Trump's latest campaign strategy? Hurling crude racial taunts at members of Congress. We can't let his playbook win in 2020.

PFAW Member,

Just when you thought he couldn’t go any lower, Trump reveals himself to be no better than the racist mobs who shouted at and spat on civil rights activists and the Black school children who were part of the first wave of school integration after Brown v. Board of Education.

As you’ve probably seen by now, over the weekend the president of the United States hurled a familiar and shameful racial taunt at four famous freshmen members of Congress – all women of color – telling them to “go back” to their “totally broken and crime infested” countries.

Only one of the congresswomen, Rep. Ilhan Omar, was born outside of the United States, but she is every bit as American as Donald Trump (many would say more so). The other women were Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (born in New York), Ayanna Pressley (born in Ohio), and Rashida Tlaib (born in Michigan).

These women of color are just the latest targets of a racist trope that many people of color – and non-Christians – have dealt with their whole lives: having their “Americanness” challenged. And it’s something that flies directly in the face of our national ideals and core values.

Is this the president you want? Is this the America you want?

If you’re answer is no, or even more likely, HELL NO, then you’ll want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to defeat this racist monster, end his corrupt administration, and kick his Republican enablers out of office.

PFAW’s electoral programs are geared towards turning out the progressive vote from every angle – from television ads tailored to Latino voters in key swing states to supporting young progressive candidates for school board and city council, we’re leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to reach the voters we need to build a winning coalition – and a repeat blue wave – in 2020.

But this is not work that will happen down the road. It’s happening now and, by necessity, needs to be sustained every day from now through November 2020 with grassroots funding from members like you.

That’s why I’m asking, and hoping that you’ll accept, that you become a Defender of Democracy sustaining member with a monthly donation to achieve our shared goal of ENDING the Trump presidency.

Can you chip in $15 a month – or whatever you can – to know you’re doing your part to defeat Trump? We’re starting now to win up and down the ballot in 2020.

Your monthly donation will be matched x 3 for an entire year, tripling the impact of your support.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, Republican officeholders have been conspicuously silent in calling out Trump’s racism. The Senate Majority Leader’s response? “No comment.”

Nancy Pelosi tweeted in response that Trump’s words lay bare that “his plan to 'Make America Great Again' has always been about making America white again,” adding, “Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power.”

We agree and that’s what we’re fighting for.

The story of America has been one of progress – a long march towards more justice, more equity, and more inclusion.

However, those who want to move our country backwards now hold power, and they’ll do anything to keep it … from extreme voter suppression to spreading lies with expensive online propaganda campaigns to, apparently, accepting help from foreign adversaries.

And Trump just showed us that a central GOP strategy will be trying to draw battle lines to pit us against each other based on race, religion, and our families’ countries of origin – divisions that are certainly part of America’s history but that are the opposite of the American ideal for which we strive.

Now is the time to dig deep and FIGHT for the America we want and the America we believe in, because Trump is showing us the alternative. And if he wins another four years, you can imagine the damage he and his allies will be able to do…

Radical Right extremists are trying to turn back the clock on a century of advances in civil rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, the social safety net and more… With Donald Trump in the White House, they’re waging an all-out assault on the fundamental pillars of our country – democracy, checks and balances, a fair and independent judicial branch, and core values like fairness, equality, and justice for all.

PFAW is fighting back every day with:

✔ Grassroots organizing

✔ And more…

But we can’t do this vital work without the robust grassroots financial support of our members and activists.
