Storytelling Spotlight with Judge Aurora Martinez Jones

This month, we interviewed Judge Aurora Martinez Jones, the elected Court Judge of the 126th District Court,?about her experience working in the child welfare system.

Chart of the Month
?

The most significant risk factor for a future teen pregnancy is a prior teen pregnancy. The chart looks at 19 year olds who gave birth in Texas in 2019 and shows how long it had been since their last pregnancy. While 72% reported that this was their first pregnancy, 28% had previously been pregnant, many of those in the last 1 - 2 years.


Texas has one of the highest rates of repeat teen pregnancy in the nation, but state law does not allow minor teen parents to consent to their own birth control. For this reason, the Texas Campaign is supporting bills that would allow teen moms to provide their own consent for contraception. To learn more, visit our bill tracking page here.?

2021 Conference on Adolescent Health

Registration for the Adolescent Health Initiative's 2021 Conference on Adolescent Health is now open! This conference is directed toward physicians, nurses, social workers, registered dietitians, health educators, public health professionals, and all others who work with adolescents in a health care capacity. Early bird pricing ends on Friday, April 2, and registration closes on Monday, May 3.
