Yesterday, a story hit our inboxes that we immediately knew was huge
news.
New research finds that unless we take action, one in three freshwater
fish species are headed for near-certain extinction, threatening the
food supply and livelihoods of 200 million people around the globe.
This is a COVID-19 level disaster headed right for us—and we put it
right at the top of our headlines.
But the rest of the corporate media? They have almost totally ignored
it. Just like they ignored warnings of other completely predictable
disasters, from the global climate emergency to the threat of a global
pandemic like the one we're facing right now.
The corporate media is failing us because their mission is to drive
ratings, generate clicks, and sell advertising. Our mission couldn't be
more different. We exist to inform, enlighten, and inspire action for
the common good.
That's why Common Dreams was created nearly 25 years ago, and it's why
our mission is more critical than ever.
