Civil rights should apply to everyone.
Generation Progress

John,

We are almost 100 days into the Biden Presidency and so much has happened. One of the first things President Biden did in office was sign an executive order to combat discrimination against LGBTQ people in health care, housing and education. It’s the most far-reaching of any federal protections yet, making it a major milestone for equality!

But we have to go further. Now, we must cement these protections into law.

We need consistent, explicit non-descrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people. That's why we need your help. We have to beat this awful game of whack-a-mole against bad rules, court positions, and legislation, so it’s past time for comprehensive protections.

Join us in demanding Congress pass the Equality Act—there's a vote on it on Capitol Hil this week!

TAKE ACTION

The Equality Act applies legal equality to literally all areas of civil rights. It would:

  • Amend our nation’s civil rights laws.
  • Provide LGBTQ+ people and their families clear, consistent protections nationwide—including in employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces, and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.

Let’s remember what this is really about: whether LGBTQ people should be treated fairly across all areas of life—or whether they can be unfairly kicked out of a restaurant, denied an apartment, or denied the medical care they need, just because of who they are. That’s why passing the Equality Act is so important.

The America that we, Millenials and Gen Z, believe in is a land of opportunity and freedom—where people who work hard should have the chance to get ahead. That’s why the Equality Act is so important. Updating our non-discrimination law helps ensure that all Americans, including LGBTQ Americans, can provide for themselves and their families, meet their obligations, live free from discrimination, and build a better life.

We need the Equality Act NOW in our fight to achieve true equality. President Biden has spoken, now we need Congress to act.

Tell your legislators to support the Equality Act today.

In solidarity,
