Hi John,
Three years ago, 17 families in Parkland woke up on Valentine’s Day not knowing that their entire lives would be altered forever. Typically, we commemorate the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by holding a lobby day in Olympia to call on legislators to act to prevent gun violence. Of course, gathering our supporters in person this year was impossible due to COVID, so we held our lobby day virtually.
* Lobby Day
We planted 842 flags, one to represent each person killed by guns in Washington in 2019. We also encouraged our supporters to send a video message to legislators and sign on to a letter demanding action.

This month marked the 25th anniversary of a school shooting in Moses Lake Washington. Our CEO's brother, Arnie, was killed along with another student and a teacher.

* Legislative Update
We are encouraged by the progress we are seeing so far this legislative session. Bills prohibiting high-capacity magazines, limiting open carry, and increasing police accountability have all been passed out of committee.

* Commonsense Conversations
Our CEO, Renee, sat down with Rep. Javier Valdez and Sen. Marko Liias to discuss restricting access to high-capacity magazines. This was the third installment of the Commonsense Conversations series.
