After polar vortex disaster, write to Congress about acting on climate
change
The polar vortex that recently dipped all the way down to the Texas Gulf
Coast is a stark reminder of the costly and deadly consequences of
climate change. Millions of Texans were left shivering in the dark
during extreme weather that is becoming more common in a climate-altered
world.
CCL volunteers have already been sharing their stories about this crisis
in the media, through pieces like this op-ed in Missouri

With the nation's attention riveted to this climate-related disaster,
members of Congress must hear from constituents that action to rein in
climate change is long overdue. We urge you to send messages to your
representative and senators, citing this catastrophe as one more reason
to act on climate. To help you take this action, we have updated CCL's
"Write Congress" tool

to reflect recent events.

If you have a little time: Share CCL's short video of Janet Yellen on
Facebook

. The video highlights the Treasury Secretary's support for a carbon
tax. It's important to let people know that carbon pricing is a policy
that several members of the Biden administration are backing.
If you have more time: Join our March 1 webinar with Stephanie Doyle,
Climate Policy Associate with the Nature Conservancy, who will share her
personal experience building relationships with environmental groups for
CCL and her current work on Clean Energy at the Nature Conservancy. This

Lobbying: Big surge in call Congress campaign
CCL's monthly calling campaign is designed to provide a steady drumbeat
of calls to members of Congress to let them know that there is support
among their constituents for effective climate action. In January of
2020, our volunteers made 350 calls. This past January, they made 1,628
calls, nearly five times as many as last year, averaging about three
calls per month to congressional offices. CCL Action Coordinator Todd
Elvins points out that if the current rate of growth for the campaign
continues, we could be averaging 14 calls per month next January.
CCL volunteers are regularly activating the " five levers

" of political will in their communities. If you want to participate in
the monthly calling campaign, sign up on CCL Community to get monthly
reminders that link to call-in guides.
