I'm proud that we've built this movement by inspiringworking people at town halls, not charming wealthy donors at cocktail parties.

I'm proud that we're winning people over by presenting a powerful progressive vision for Maine and for America and by letting folks know that we don't need to settle for the same-old, same-old in our politics.

We're rallying thousands behind a fundamental (but too often forgotten) truth: our values are worth fighting for, and we can win that fight.

We know how the "progressive underdog" story starts out in races like ours, John:

Democrats in Washington choose a safe, middle-of-the-road candidate who won't upset the status quo or challenge party leadership by taking bold action. Then, they direct tons of money to that campaign.

Meanwhile, working families rally behind an "underdog" with a fiercely progressive record, a vision for real change in Washington, and the will to fight for Medicare for All, reproductive rights, a Green New Deal, sensible gun safety reform, and economic justice.

From there, the story goes one of two ways:

1. The progressive underdog surprises everyone with the size and enthusiasm of their grassroots support. (Endless think pieces follow, all of which conclude "It turns out there are a lot of people who are tired of being taken for granted and ignored.")

2. The establishment candidate and the special interests who'll benefit from keeping the status quo drown out all other voices by flooding the state with cash.
