People For Member, Expanded civil rights protections for the LGBTQ+ community are finally within reach. But your activism will be essential to the next part of the process. Two years ago the House passed the Equality Act, a bill that would extend fundamental civil rights protections to the LGBTQ+ community to prevent discrimination in individuals’ daily lives. This year – with Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress – we are poised to take a giant leap toward true equality for every American, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity. The House vote is expected as early as tomorrow, so we must act quickly! Sign now to urge the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Equality Act without delay! >> While the LGBTQ+ movement has made great strides over the years, LGBTQ+ people still aren't guaranteed nationwide the same federal protections from discrimination that protect people based on their race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and religion. It’s vital that we ensure equal protection for everyone under the law, particularly in light of the far-right’s continued attacks on both LGBTQ+ rights and the Equality Act itself. And like the fight for marriage equality, the promise of “equality under the law” has faced fierce opposition from the Right. Far-right House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) – who has a history of anti-transgender statements – recently declared “war” on the Equality Act, falsely accusing it of attacking women’s rights and being a smokescreen for religious discrimination.[1] This kind of anti-gay gaslighting is precisely why we need the Equality Act to be passed immediately. Tell the House of Representatives that the Equality Act needs their vote today! >> There is so much left to be done to achieve full equality and true justice for people across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, and the Equality Act is the next crucial step. Please join us as we keep the drumbeat going until this bill is signed into law. In solidarity, Sarah, Digital Campaigns Associate
