John,
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began around this time last year, millions of Americans have lost their jobs or dealt with reductions in hours at work — triggering an unprecedented housing affordability crisis.
Many renters, homeowners, and unemployed workers are teetering on the edge of being evicted, foreclosed out of their homes, or accruing more debt in the middle of an economic crisis — and many are still waiting on unemployment assistance. Nearly 12 million American renters were expected to owe an average of almost $6,000 in late rent and utility payments per household as of last month.
Eviction moratoriums and payment extensions never were and never will be enough. To prevent an eviction and foreclosure disaster, President Biden must act NOW.
Will you add your name to our petition calling on President Biden to use his executive authority to cancel rent and mortgage payments, and get relief to millions of renters and homeowners immediately?

We're calling on President Biden to take the following actions specifically:
-
Cancel rent and mortgage payments including rent and mortgage suspension through the duration of the pandemic, and provide relief for property owners as outlined in H.R. 6515 The Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act.
-
Expand the CDC eviction moratorium to go beyond non-payment of rent and make the moratorium automatic, so it does not place the burden on tenants to apply for protection.
Far too many Americans were already forced to choose between paying for lifesaving health care and paying the rent — and now millions more are facing that decision at the end of this week.
We must not only cancel all rent and mortgage payments but make sure tenants and homeowners aren't slammed with a massive bill after this pandemic. If you agree, add your name to demand that President Biden takes action now.
