Merrick Garland finally got his Senate hearing -- but we both know he deserved one 5 years ago for his Supreme Court nomination.
While Garland will make an excellent attorney general, he should have been a Supreme Court justice -- and the GOP ripped that away from him. Now Americans are forced to endure the devastating consequences of having a 6-3 conservative Supreme Court.
We can never forgive or forget the GOP's hypocrisy of refusing to confirm Garland to the Supreme Court under the guise of bad timing, then joyously speeding through Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation during Trump's final days in office.
We NEED to ensure that in 2022, the GOP is denied the House majority that they so desperately need -- the GOP can never be allowed another opportunity to sabotage one of Biden's nominees like they did with Merrick Garland's nomination. Now is the time to fight even harder to ensure our progressive champions are still here next year, or we risk everything we fought so hard for in 2020.
Having a 7-2 conservative-leaning Supreme Court isn't far out of the realm of possibility if Democrats fail to maintain the House and Senate -- but we at Progressive Majority are fighting every day to ensure this never happens. Unfortunately, it's going to be a long and expensive battle, and we're already falling short in our early 2021 goals.
