Dear Friend,
Congressional Democrats are pushing for the Biden Administration to cancel up to $50,000 in student loan debt. They claim that the American people need student debt relief to get a leg up in this economy. But is this true; is it the best course of action? Shouldn’t government intervention signal “System Failure!” in flashing-red lights—not a free lunch?
Why is student loan and higher education reform left off the table in these discussions?
Next week, the National Association of Scholars will attempt to answer those questions with the release of a new report, Priced Out: What College Costs America. The report takes a detailed look into 50 universities and their spending habits and provides perspectives from students, parents, and college administrators.
The launch event will be hosted both in-person online on March 4th at 2:30 pm ET from the Sheraton Suites at Cypress Creek, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Tickets for both audiences are available on Eventbrite. This is our first in-person event in over a year, so if you're in the area, we'd love to see you there face-to-face (mask-to-mask).
Neetu Arnold, the report’s author, also includes recommendations to cut costs, empower families to make better choices, and increase information transparency. As universities are left at a crossroads following the coronavirus pandemic, they can no longer ignore their profligate spending habits nor the American people.
Event details and additional information are available here. I hope you can make it. Or, I look forward to seeing you there.
Yours,
Peter W. Wood
President
