Dear Friend,
Last week, the House Judiciary Committee held a groundbreaking hearing on marijuana reform. This was the first ever congressional committee hearing devoted to ending marijuana prohibition.
DPA was instrumental in bringing key witnesses to the Capitol -including Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby and physicians David Nathan and Malik Burnett- to testify about the damaging impact of the war on drugs, especially on low-income people and communities of color that have been disproportionately harmed with higher rates of arrest and incarceration.
It was unthinkable just a few years ago that a congressional committee would hold a hearing on ending marijuana prohibition, but DPA persevered. Now, we need your support to help keep the pressure on Congress to finally end the war on drugs.

In the same week, we also announced the formation of the Marijuana Justice Coalition, which we played an instrumental role in convening. The Coalition is a broad group of 10 national civil rights, immigration and drug policy organizations. Together, we released a set of principles for federal marijuana reform, encouraging Congress to frame marijuana legalization as an issue of equity, racial justice, economic justice and empowerment, particularly for the communities most targeted by the over-enforcement of marijuana laws.
Not only have we forced Congress to start taking reform seriously, but we’ve shifted the conversation to why marijuana legalization must also repair the harms of prohibition.
Please make a donation today to keep this momentum going and end this devastating war on drugs. [link removed]
