Since I was sworn in as Senator, I’ve fought tooth and nail to make progress on important issues like increasing access to quality health care and expanding environmental protections, but something I’m really proud of is being an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act.
The historic Equality Act would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in education, housing, public accommodations and more.
No one should have to live in fear because of who they are or who they love. This anti-discrimination legislation for the LGBTQ community is long overdue. Now that Democrats are in charge in Washington, we can finally make this bill law.

For the past four years, Donald Trump and Washington Republicans have rolled back the clock on LGBTQ rights, dismantled critical protections, and spread vicious hate across our communities.
From banning transgender people from serving in our military to appointing radical judges to removing health care protections in the Affordable Care Act, Trump caused great damage to the LGBTQ community.
We still have a long road ahead of us to achieve true equality. But I think we’re taking many steps in the right direction. Just this summer — despite the Trump Administration's disapproval — the Supreme Court ruled that employers cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation. That gives me hope. Now, let’s keep it going:
