Friend – join us in standing up to Governor Cuomo’s attempt to undermine Local Law 97, the most ambitious city emissions reduction and job creation law in the country.
Addressing climate change in New York City means cutting greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, which are responsible for 70% of NYC’s greenhouse gas output. Local Law 97 was designed to do just that and create over 140,000 good, green jobs for New Yorkers.
Through the Climate Works for All coalition, we fought hard to ensure the passage of Local Law 97 to address the climate and jobs crisis that is devastating frontline Black and brown communities. But now all that grassroots work is under threat by a real-estate backed proposal in Cuomo’s budget.
It’s not too late, we must show Governor Cuomo and the state legislature that we must move forward with aggressive climate action, not giveaways to real estate interests. Stand with us TOMORROW, Thursday, February 25th, at 11:00 AM EST to fight to save Local Law 97 and green jobs.

Included in the Governor's budget proposal is Part R of the TED bill, a provision that would open the floodgates to six million renewable energy credits, representing twice the greenhouse gas emissions over the Local Law 97 limits for 2024 to 2029. In other words, Part R could allow building owners a loophole to avoid compliance to Local Law 97, ultimately undermining the objective of the law to reduce building emissions and protect frontline communities.
This all means fewer green union jobs, more harm to environmental justice communities, and would stymie our ability to reduce city emissions as quickly and aggressively as possible. Take action with us to #StopPartR and #SaveLL97.
