I'm going to be totally upfront with you, team:

I'm writing because I need your help to hit our upcoming FEC deadline goal so we can stay on track to build up a campaign that can compete with Senator John Cornyn and WIN next November. I know the election is a ways away, but give me a minute and I'm going to explain why pitching in right now is so important.

Senator Cornyn already aired the first TV ads of the campaign, thanks to the $9 million war chest he amassed with lots of help from corporate PAC and special interest donors. He's not going to hold back. The race has already started, and it's clear it's going to be a long and expensive one. We've got to be prepared to fight back.

But here's the deal: I don't have any corporate PACs pouring money into my campaign, hoping I'll play nice with them once I'm Senator. I'm not taking their money, because I plan to be accountable to the people, not the special interests.

That means I can't win without you. This FEC deadline goal is critical. Folks will be looking at the amount of money we report to measure the support we have, and whether we've got a chance to win next November.
