This is urgent. This week multiple news sources reported that the Biden administration was re-opening two detention camps in Texas and Florida specifically to detain children and teenagers.
These actions fly in the face of promises Joe Biden made while on the campaign trail, and it goes against everything that drove young Black and brown people to the polls in historic numbers to help get him elected last November.
Now, more than ever, our fight to defund and abolish ICE and CBP is critical. Without these two government agencies around to harass and torment our communities, our children, and our future generations, the deportation machine would not be able to function like it does today.
Our organizing around this life-changing campaign has never mattered more. We need to use every tool at our disposal to keep the pressure on Biden and Congress to live up to the promises that elected or re-elected them in November of last year. In the first month of his presidency alone Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has already deported over 26,000 immigrants. The news of this re-imagined prison for young immigrants and people of color is equally distressing. We always knew the fight would be long and hard-fought, and that we would always be the ones be suited to take those battles on.
But we haven’t come this far by ourselves and we know we won’t be victorious in our fight to secure equality and permanent protections for undocumented immigrants in this country without your continued help.
