Capitol Hill Webinar
Is the International Criminal Court a Legal Body or Merely a Political Body?
A look at the ICC and their investigation of Israel for alleged “war crimes against Palestine”
Wednesday, February 24th at 12pm EST
FEATURING:
Professor Avi Bell - Israeli Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law and at Bar-Ilan University's Faculty of Law
About this webinar: At the request of the Palestinians, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, has opened up an investigation of Israel for supposed “war crimes” committed in the 2014 war over Gaza. We know that the only reason Israel went to war with this Hamas-controlled entity is that Hamas, a terrorist organization who has maintained that designation on our State Department’s terrorist list since 1967. Had relentlessly launched over 1,000 missiles on its neighboring Israeli cities and farmlands, creating a reign of terror for many Israeli citizens.
International legal scholar of world renown Avi Bell will answer a number of questions we have about these proceedings, including:
Under international law, was Israel justified, in the first place for waging war against Hamas-occupied Gaza?
Does the court’s territorial jurisdiction extend to the disputed territories that Israel captured in its defensive war of 1967?
Knowing the makeup of the court, is there any possibility that Israel will receive a fair investigation and a fair trial?
